Show in Folder
Purpose
This new tiny feature allows to quickly open folders containing datasets (shapefiles, tables, geodatabases, raster files etc.) selected in the Table of contents or Catalog in ArcMap.
Description
The tool opens a new File Explorer window and goes to the folder with the data source of the element selected in the Table of contents or in the Catalog dockable window in ArcMap.
For the file based datasets (shp, sdc, dwg, tab, dbf, csv, xls, xlsx, bmp, jpeg, tiff, gif, ttf etc.) and geodatabases (mdb, gbd, sqlite) the containing folder will be opened.
For the elements residing on the remote server the tool will open a local folder with the database connection file.
Usage
The tool is available from the XTools Pro menu, from the layer context menu in the Table of contents, or from the selected elements context menu in Catalog. The tool icon is enabled if there is a layer or a data element selected either in the Table of contents or in Catalog.
Select a layer in the Table of contents or a data element in the Catalog dockable window in ArcMap, then select the Open Folder in Explorer tool either from the XTools Pro menu or from the selected element context menu. A new File Explorer window with the data source of the selected element will open.
