Erase Features

 

 

Purpose

 

Erase Features tool erases features from the input layer by features of the overlaying layer. The output dataset contains only those features from the input layer falling outside the erasing features of the overlaying layer. Input layer features within or coincident with erasing features will be removed.

 

 

Description

 

The overlay erasing layer features can be points, polylines, or polygons and the input layer features should be of the same or simpler geometry type:

- points can be erased by points, polylines and polygons

- polylines can be erased by polylines and polygons

- polygons can be erased only by polygons

 

Output layer features are always of the same geometry type as the input layer features. The attribute table for the output layer contains the same items as the input layer attribute table.

 

 

Usage

 

  1. Select the "Erase Features" tool from the XTools Pro Layer Operations menu.

  2. Select the input layer containing features that you wish to erase.

  3. Specify the name and location of the output feature class.

  4. Select the erasing overlay layer containing features that will be used to erase features in the input layer.

  5. If there are any selected features in the input and overlay layers you can choose to process only those selected features.     

  6. Specify tolerance if required.

  7. Press Run to erase features.
